University of Benghazi Research Contributes to Improving GNSS Network Accuracy

A researcher from the University of Benghazi has contributed to a new international study aimed at improving the accuracy and reliability of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) networks. The peer-reviewed research was published in Geomatics, an international journal published by MDPI, on 26 September 2026.

The study includes the participation of Yasmin Al-Sheikhi, a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum, University of Benghazi, alongside an international research team comprising researchers from Libya and Egypt.

The research paper, titled “Hybrid Adjustment of Very-Long-Baseline GNSS Networks Using Robust Estimation with Residual Clustering,” addresses errors and reliability challenges in very-long-baseline GNSS networks.

The paper presents advanced engineering solutions to address challenges and errors in long-baseline Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) networks, improving the accuracy and reliability of geodetic measurements and data.

Applications in Mapping, Planning and Geodetic Monitoring

The research has a range of engineering and scientific applications. The developed algorithms can improve the accuracy of data used in digital mapping, urban planning, monitoring changes in the Earth’s surface, and detecting crustal deformation at millimetre-level precision. These applications can support more efficient engineering and strategic projects while expanding capabilities in geodetic monitoring and analysis.
