A Global Triple Research Achievement in Scopus and Web of Science: University of Benghazi Raises the Bar of Academic Ambition through Prof. Ashraf El-Hashani’s Research School
In a new scientific achievement reflecting the growing international research presence of the University of Benghazi, researcher El Mahdi Elkaseh, a master’s student at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, has achieved a distinguished academic milestone by publishing three research papers derived from his thesis in prestigious international journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, prior to defending his dissertation.
This achievement was accomplished under the supervision of Prof. Ashraf El-Hashani, through the Prof. Ashraf El-Hashani Research Group — Physical Chemistry, and the Colloid, Surface Chemistry and Material Science Group (CSM). The group’s research approach and academic expertise have established a distinguished scientific model within the department, producing research outcomes with international impact and elevating the university’s position in academic publishing and ranking indicators.
The three published papers appeared in internationally recognised journals. The first paper, titled “Physicochemical investigation of DL-DOPA interaction with cationic surfactants: Micellization, binding thermodynamics, and solubilization,” was published in JCIS Open by Elsevier and classified in the first quartile Q1.
The second paper, titled “Partitioning-Dominated Encapsulation of DL-DOPA in Sodium Deoxycholate Micelles: Thermodynamic Insights Into Micellization and Binding,” was published in the Journal of Chemistry by Wiley and classified in the second quartile Q2.
The third paper, titled “Micellization dynamics of sodium dodecyl sulfate in the presence of apomorphine hydrochloride hemihydrate: A physicochemical characterization study,” was published in Next Materials by Elsevier and classified in the first quartile Q1.
This achievement is particularly significant, as it was completed during the thesis preparation stage, demonstrating the quality of the research outputs and their approval by international reviewers and experts before the local academic defence. It also confirms the dissertation’s scientific depth and the advanced level of the research.
The published work reflects productive collaboration between researchers and academics from Libya and abroad, including El Mahdi Elkaseh, Haytham Abuissa, Eman Fadhil, Prof. Ashraf El-Hashani, Khaled Edbey, and Ajaya Bhattarai.
This scientific accomplishment confirms the ability of Libyan researchers to compete in leading international scientific platforms.
