University of Benghazi President Receives Deputy British Ambassador and British Council Director to Discuss Joint Cooperation

The President of the University of Benghazi, Professor Eiz Eldeen Aldressi, received the Deputy British Ambassador to Libya, Ben Rawlings, and the Director of the British Council in Libya, Mohamed Zahed, along with their accompanying delegation.

The meeting was held as part of efforts to expand academic and cultural cooperation between the University and international institutions. It was attended by Dr Ahmed Saad, Director of the International Cooperation Office, and office members Dr Tarek Najm and Dr Souad Al-Nasfi.

Discussions addressed several areas of mutual interest, particularly opportunities to expand cooperation between the University of Benghazi and the British Council. The proposed cooperation aims to support educational development, advance academic and research partnerships, and create new opportunities in training, knowledge exchange, and capacity building.

An extended meeting was also held with the British delegation in the presence of Dr Khaled Al-Fadhali, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr Meftah Al-Jazwi, Vice President for Medical Colleges. The two sides discussed several strategic matters related to developing joint academic and cultural cooperation.

The meeting focused on ways to benefit from the programmes and funding opportunities provided by the British Council through the Cultural Protection Fund to support projects dedicated to preserving and protecting Libya’s cultural heritage.

The two sides also reviewed opportunities to launch joint initiatives in scientific research, higher education development, and institutional capacity building. These initiatives would support the University of Benghazi’s role in serving the community and preserving Libya’s national cultural identity.

Both parties emphasised the importance of continued coordination and communication, as well as transforming the proposed areas of cooperation into practical programmes and projects that contribute to academic and cultural development. The discussions also support the University’s efforts to expand its international partnerships and advance its regional and global presence.
