University of Benghazi Receives Praise from Official Scottish Media in Recognition of Its International Research Partnership in the Field of Biodiversity

The University of Benghazi has been praised by a number of official platforms and websites affiliated with the Scottish Government in recognition of the scientific and research cooperation that brings it together with Scottish research institutions in the field of protecting genetic biodiversity and developing modern scientific tools to assess and preserve it.

The media coverage highlighted the role played by Scottish scientists and researchers in developing innovative approaches and tools to measure genetic biodiversity and expanding their application in different environments and climatic regions around the world, including North Africa and the Middle East, through international scientific partnerships in which the University of Benghazi participates, represented by the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science.

The collaboration builds on the strategic Memorandum of Understanding signed between the University of Benghazi and NatureScot in June 2026, which established a framework for joint environmental research, biodiversity studies, and academic cooperation.

This cooperation comes within the framework of joint research efforts that have extended over the past three years and have contributed to producing scientific results and developing practical mechanisms for studying the genetic diversity of local plant species in support of efforts to preserve natural resources and enhance environmental sustainability, with a view to publishing more research outputs in the coming period.

These efforts received international attention at the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), hosted by Armenia last October, with broad international participation from scientific and environmental bodies and decision-makers.

This praise reflects the growing scientific standing of the University of Benghazi and its presence in international scientific research tracks and confirms the importance of cross-border partnerships in employing scientific knowledge and expertise to address global environmental challenges and in consolidating the university’s role as an active partner in knowledge production and in contributing to sustainable development issues.
