The University of Benghazi Enhances Its International Presence through Research Agreement with China University of Geosciences

 

The President of the University of Benghazi, Professor Eiz Eldeen Aldressi, signed a joint research agreement with China University of Geosciences in support of advancing scientific research and promoting academic exchange in the fields of Earth sciences and environmental change.

 

The signing ceremony was held with Mr Jun Xin, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Geomicrobiology and Environmental Change at China University of Geosciences. The agreement provides for the implementation of a joint research project between the Department of Earth Sciences at the Faculty of Science, The University of Benghazi, and the corresponding research centre at China University of Geosciences.

 

The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Hussein Gunjan, the Head of the Department of Earth Sciences, the Director of the International Cooperation Office, as well as the department’s project coordinator and the Quality and Performance Evaluation Coordinator. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of this scientific collaboration and its institutional alignment.

 

The research project focuses on a critical period in Earth’s history, marked by widespread environmental changes and intense deposition of organic-rich shale formations. The project aims primarily to understand marine productivity across the Ordovician-Silurian boundary globally, with special attention to the Gondwana region, where the Libyan geological record is considered one of the most significant scientific records of global value.
