University of Benghazi President Discusses Expanded Academic and Research Cooperation with British Ambassador
President of the University of Benghazi, Professor Eiz Eldeen Aldressi, met with British Ambassador to Libya Martin Reynolds to discuss expanding academic and research cooperation between the university and higher education institutions in the United Kingdom. The meeting also explored opportunities for student exchange, international study, and stronger institutional partnerships with British universities.
Expanding Academic Cooperation with British Universities
Discussions focused on expanding academic and research cooperation between the University of Benghazi and educational and research institutions in the United Kingdom. Particular attention was given to renewing and activating existing memoranda of understanding and agreements with British universities, while establishing new channels for communication and developing academic and research partnerships that promote knowledge exchange and institutional cooperation.
Study Opportunities for UK Students at the University of Benghazi
Professor Eiz Eldeen Aldressi also proposed welcoming students from the United Kingdom to study at the University of Benghazi through specialised programmes in Arabic language, history, and Islamic archaeology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The initiative would broaden academic and cultural exchange and provide greater opportunities to introduce students to Libya’s cultural and historical heritage.
Following the meeting, the ambassador and accompanying delegation joined the university president and the director of the International Cooperation Office for a tour of the Central Library on the university campus. The delegation viewed the renovation and development work completed at the library and across the university by the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, headed by Engineer Belqasem Khalifa Haftar. They also explored the library’s collections of books, references, periodicals, and educational materials that support teaching and research at the university.
Chevening Alumni Share Their UK Study Experiences
The visit also included a session with University of Benghazi graduates who had previously received Chevening Scholarships, attended by the Director of the International Cooperation Office. The graduates shared their academic experiences at British universities and discussed the educational, research, and professional opportunities gained through their studies in the United Kingdom.
Scholarship Workshops for University of Benghazi Students
The two sides also agreed to organise information workshops for University of Benghazi students on scholarships offered by the UK Government. The workshops will introduce students to available opportunities and guide application procedures and eligibility requirements, with the aim of expanding access to international academic programmes.
