University of Benghazi Participates in MEDFORGEN Train-the-Trainers Programme in Morocco
The University of Benghazi, represented by the Department of Botany at the Faculty of Science, participated in the first Train-the-Trainers workshop under the Mediterranean Forest Genetic Resources (MEDFORGEN) project. The programme focused on forest inventory methods, vegetation analysis, and forest genetic resources and was held in Ifrane Province, Morocco, from 19 to 21 October 2026.
The University’s participation followed an invitation from the European Forest Institute (EFI) and Morocco’s National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF).
Training in Forest Inventory and Vegetation Analysis
Hosted by Morocco’s National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF), the training was organised under MEDFORGEN – Mediterranean Forest Genetic Resources, an EU-funded regional project implemented by the European Forest Institute (EFI) to strengthen the conservation and sustainable management of forest genetic resources across Mediterranean countries.
Strengthening Mediterranean Forest Genetic Resources
The programme aimed to develop participants’ capacity to apply forest inventory and vegetation analysis methods while incorporating forest genetic resource considerations into forest monitoring and assessment. It also provided specialised training designed to improve the management and study of forest genetic resources across the Mediterranean region.
