The Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the International Cooperation Office at the University of Benghazi, organised a distinguished scientific lecture on Tuesday morning on the dialect of Greek-speaking Muslims (Cretan dialect) in Libya. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Angeliki Sygkourou, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of the Aegean, Department of Mediterranean Studies (Rhodes, Greece), and was held at the Postgraduate Studies Hall, Faculty of Media.

The lecture was attended by faculty members, researchers, and students, where Dr. Sygkourou studied and analysed the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the Greek-speaking Muslims, highlighting their historical and social dimensions and their relation to the Libyan Mediterranean environment.

The seminar featured a rich scientific discussion and notable interaction from the audience, who raised several questions and inquiries about the topic and contributed to broadening academic dialogue and the exchanging of views and issues on language, identity, and shared history in the Mediterranean region.

This event is part of the Faculty of Arts’ efforts to support scientific activities, engaging with international research experiences, and enhancing academic communication and researchers from various universities and scientific institutions.
