The President of the University of Benghazi Receives a Greek Delegation and Briefs Them on the University’s Reconstruction Projects
The President of the University of Benghazi, Professor Dr. Eiz Eldeen Aldressi, received this afternoon a Greek delegation, along with a number of University Council members. The delegation was accompanied by the Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, Engineer Belqasim Khalifa Haftar, the Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Consul General of Greece in Benghazi. The visit comes within the framework of strengthening academic and cultural cooperation and exchanging expertise between the two sides.
During the meeting, the University President welcomed the visiting delegation, expressing his appreciation for the visit, which reflects the depth of Libyan–Greek relations. He also reaffirmed the University of Benghazi’s commitment to openness toward international partnerships that support education and scientific research.
Following the meeting, the delegation took a field tour of several university buildings, most notably the Central Library building. The Greek side was briefed on the rehabilitation and development works that have restored this scientific institution to life after it suffered extensive damage during the war on terrorism in the mid last decade, thanks to the efforts and support of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund.
The visit also included the Manuscripts Centre at the Central Library, where the delegation received a comprehensive explanation of the centre’s rare scientific and historical holdings, its role in preserving intellectual and cultural heritage, and the importance of maintaining and developing these collections in accordance with modern academic standards.
This visit comes in the context of supporting the reconstruction process, strengthening international cooperation, and highlighting the academic and infrastructural renaissance taking place at the University of Benghazi, reflecting its return to playing a leading role in serving higher education and society.
