University of Benghazi President Meets Italian Consul General to Strengthen Academic and Scientific Cooperation
Professor Eiz Eldeen Aldressi, President of the University of Benghazi, met with Italian Consul General Filippo Colombo this morning to discuss ways to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation between the University of Benghazi and Italian educational institutions.
The Consul General was accompanied by Isabella Lucaferri, Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Libya, and Claudia Oriolo, the Agency’s Coordinator.
The meeting was attended by the University’s Vice President for Scientific Affairs, the Director of the International Cooperation Office, several officials from the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the Director of the University Rankings Committee, and a faculty member from the Department of Italian Language.
Discussions focused on cooperation prospects, particularly in the medical and educational fields. The participants explored the possibility of implementing academic exchange and training programmes with Italian universities specialising in medical sciences, with the aim of supporting academic staff development and improving the quality of education and scientific research.
The two sides also discussed enhancing academic partnerships between the University of Benghazi and Italian universities across various disciplines. They considered practical mechanisms for putting these partnerships into effect in ways that serve shared interests and open new prospects for scientific and research cooperation.
During the meeting, the Italian Consul General expressed the Italian side’s interest in providing Italian students with the opportunity to study the Arabic language, Islamic archaeology, and several other academic disciplines at the University of Benghazi, thereby enhancing cultural and academic exchange between the two countries.
The meeting ended with an emphasis on the importance of maintaining continued communication and coordination between both sides, and on working to translate its outcomes into joint programmes and initiatives aimed at advancing academic relations between the University of Benghazi and Italian educational institutions.
